People are interesting these days. It might not actually be these days, but always. It seems that the same handful of “do-ers” do consistently. That “mandatory” now means suggested and everyone is “busy” and their busy trumps mandatory.
One thing I know for sure is that my life’s ups and downs would trump almost anyone’s. Not many people know, because I do not lead with that. I am not my troubles and traumas.
I showed up to our mandatory event with my daughter by my side. We did not talk about those who were not there but celebrated those who were. We worked hard, and worked as a team. The players went door to door collecting pop cans to return for money and not only did our community support us with those donations, they also donated cash. They smiled and thanked as we filled up my car 4 times. The coaches helped ferry from our cars to the drop off centers where other parents loaded the cans one-by-one.
I do believe in “if you do good, you will be rewarded.” Today with a smaller crew and a lot of teamwork, we had our best drive ever!
I still believe in mandatory. We cannot change people, but we can teach our children that positivity makes for good outcomes. The best part of today was spending it with a bunch of amazing parents and players. We are off to a great start!
